A Qualification in Person-led, Transitional and Strength-based Approaches

The PTS Qualification provides a unique opportunity to deepen your learning and understanding of what it truly means to deliver a person-led, transitional and strength-based approach. This unique qualification will deepen your understanding into system thinking and the impact that removing system barriers has on the people you work with and the sector as a whole.

Course Overview

This is a a Certificate of Professional Development , a level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework and worth 40 credits. Students who achieve this are invited to graduate.

The qualification is made up of two modules, each module will involve 200 hours of learning, which includes three consecutive days of study based at Coventry University in module one and two consecutive days in module two, digital learning, self-directed study and completion of a portfolio.

  • Full course fees: £2000
  • Single module: £1000
  • Credits awarded: 20 per module

The PTS Qualification is designed for for those working in the health, social care and criminal justice sector.

Learning Outcomes for Module One – Understanding the Personal Transitions Service (PTS)

  1. Understand the current UK deficit focused support system, services, structure and processes that are in place to support people going through difficult transitions
  2. Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of deficit focused support systems for people going through difficult transitions
  3. Explore the key features of a Personal Transitions Service and the associated theory of change in order to identify the impact these can have on individuals
  4. Understand the importance of systemic change in order to promote improved interventions and non-service responses

Learning Outcomes for Module Two – Becoming a PTS Coach/Practitioner

  1. Develop the skills required to be a PTS Coach, through analysing strengths & asset-based approach
  2. Understand the key PTS interventions, principles & concepts as well as the effects of power dynamics and use these to inform practice
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the PTS culture and how this supports coaches to deliver a personalised, transitional & strength-based work to the people accessing the PTS
  4. Understand the role of the PTS Coach in highlighting and overcoming systemic barriers and creating systems change
